150 countries in the world grow potatoes and almost everywhere potatoes are grown, the James Hutton Institute will have had some connection. This could be through academic collaborations, by growing varieties that can trace their pedigree back to the Hutton or its predecessors, or through commercial links with James Hutton Ltd.
The Hutton collaborates with the International Potato Centre in Peru and has played a leading role in helping sub-Saharan countries improve their potato yield and quality to alleviate poverty, enhance nutrition and reduce environmental impacts. Potato varieties bred at the Hutton have been trialled throughout the world including China, India, Japan, South Africa, throughout the Middle East, Australia, USA, Canada. Most European countries and many sub-Sahara African countries. Hutton scientists have academic collaborations on potato in all five continents.
